Chirag P. Shah, MD, MPH
Dr. Chirag Shah is a vitreoretinal surgery fellow at the Wills Eye Institute at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Shah’s has experiences over a broad range of research including public health issues, behavior modification, and epidemiologic and genetics as they relate to ophthalmic conditions. Working in such far locales as San Jose,Cost Rica; Ladak, India; Regensburg, Germany; and near sites such as Ocular Molecular Genetics Institute, Massachusetts General Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, MA, Dr. Shah brings a depth and breathe of knowledge most supportive of the goals of the Center for Value Based Medicine.
Chirag Shah graduated from medical school at the University of Rochester and graduate school at the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Shah pursued a residency in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Institute where he served as Co-chief Resident. Dr. Shah has over fifty publications and presentations. He was a Chief Editor of the Wills Eye Manual, the highly acclaimed text for ophthalmic care and also created the Wills Interactive Review of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Shah is currently looking at the costs of neovascular age related macular degeneration from a societal and payor perspective. The comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the interventions for this visually disabling disease will be helpful in policy and healthcare decisions.
