Omesh P. Gupta, MD, MBA
Dr. Gupta has been associated with the Principals of the Center since 2004. He is skilled in utility analysis, cost-utility analysis and translational medicine instruments from the laboratory to the clinical arena across many fields in medicine. His background and experience in genetics, biomedical engineering and health sciences business management, in addition to his medical degree, make Omesh a valuable associate at the Center.
Dr. Gupta is currently a vitreoretinal surgeon at Mid-Atlantic Retina and Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. As a lead author or contributor of over 50 articles, book chapters, and presentations, Dr. Gupta has served on the editorial board of Evidence-Based Ophthalmology and Retina Today. He has been an invited reviewer for Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology and British Journal of Ophthalmology Clinical Evidence.
Dr. Gupta graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics and minors in Architecture and Biomedical Engineering. He was then the first graduate of the combined 5-year MD/MBA program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Research and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Sciences Management.
Dr. Gupta completed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA where he served as a Co-chief Resident. As a vitreoretinal fellow, he was selected to receive the prestigious Ronald G. Michels Fellowship Foundation Award, the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship Award and a highly sought research grant from the Eye Research Institute.
Dr. Gupta’s efforts and interest in Value-Based Medicine only serve to emphasize the breadth and depth of the Center’s expertise in comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness analyses. Those at the Center continue to be impressed and appreciative of his knowledge, skills and enthusiasm.
