National Health Expenditure: 5.0% in 1960 to 17.9% in 2016
Actuaries from the CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) noted that healthcare spending in the United States in 1960 was $27.5 billion, 5.0% of the $543 billion Gross Domestic Product (GDP). By 2016, total healthcare spending was $3.3 trillion, $10,348 per person and 17.9% of the Gross domestic product. by 2026, the national health expenditure is estimated to reach $5.4 trillion, or 19.7% of the GDP.
